MIT Climate Pathways Project Wins Paris Peace Forum Support

The MIT Climate Pathways Project has been selected by the Paris Peace Forum as one of 10 civil society projects that over the coming year will receive customized advisory support from the Forum’s Scale-up Program,  an accelerator program that aims to help these projects increase their visibility and impact.

The 10 winning projects this year were chosen by a jury of experts and announced on November 11 at the Forum’s fall 2024 gathering in Paris. Bethany Patten, Executive Director of the MIT Climate Policy Center, accepted the award with Florian Kapmeier, an MIT Sloan School of Management research affiliate, Professor of Strategy at ESB Business School at Reutlingen University, and a Climate Pathways Project team member.

The MIT Climate Pathways Project uses interactive simulations and research insights to advance the adoption of evidence-based climate policy. Much as pilots start to learn to fly using flight simulators, the MIT Climate Pathways Project uses interactive simulations to help leaders in government, business, and civil society test climate policy ideas in a hands-on way before taking them to the boardroom or turning them into legislation.

The MIT Climate Pathways Project is a collaborative effort between the MIT Climate Policy Center, the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative, and Climate Interactive. To date, the project has reached more than 15,000 decision-makers and influencers in government, business, and civil society, including members of the U.S. Congress and executive branch, as well as governors and mayors; their counterparts around the world; and leaders in business, NGOs, and academia.

“We are thrilled to have the support of the Paris Peace Forum’s Scale-up Program to continue to increase the impact and reach of the MIT Climate Pathways Project, “ Patten said. “We look forward to taking the MIT Climate Pathways Project to the next level.”

Launched in 2018, the Paris Peace Forum describes itself as “an international multi-stakeholder platform dedicated to global governance solutions. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, the Forum aims to strengthen the governance of global commons such as climate, space or oceans, and to improve international management of global challenges, particularly those of digital and disruptive technologies.”
