Carl Stjernfeldt is a Lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management.

At ArcLight, Carl is focused on energy transition related investments, across a wide range of market segments and deal stages. Before ArcLight, Carl headed up the Corporate Development group in Americas for Shell New Energies, the renewables and emerging business models division of Shell, performing minority and majority investments (>$20M) and M&A. New Energies focus areas include solar, wind, storage, power, and enhanced mobility (electric, transportation as a service, etc), He was the senior US member of the Shell ventures team, where he also headed up the digital investment fund. Carl joined Shell after more than a decade as a venture investor at top tier firms, focused on software investments.Carl serves(d) on boards of successful companies, including: Agito Networks (acquired by ShoreTel), Arbor Networks (acquired by Tektronix), BNI Video (acquired by Cisco), Broadbus Technologies (acquired by Motorola), Cedar Point Communications (acquired by Genband), Funambol, Innowatts, Tejas Networks (NSE: TEJASNET), and Quantico Energy Systems, and he serves(d) as board observer of Inspiration Mobility, Halfwave (acquired by Eddyfi/NDT), Optium (NASDAQ: OPTM, acquired by Finisar), Veros Systems, and Welldog.

Carl has been recognized twice as a Global Corporate Venturing's top 100 star in 2017 & 18. Prior to his venture career, Carl was a client partner for Cambridge Technology Partners, leading teams that delivered large mission-critical system implementations for Fortune 100 clients. He started his career as an engineer at Summa Four, developing telecommunications solutions for domestic and international service providers, later rising to engineering management before starting an application development department.Carl is active at MIT, serving as a Catalyst for the Deshpande Center, judged MIT's 100K competition, and teaching an entrepreneurial finance class at the Sloan School. He is a charter member with TiE, and served on the advisory board of EV Private Equity. Carl has served as the treasurer of the New England Venture Capital Association, and on the board of the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, where he also served as chair of the Mobile Cluster.
