MIT takes top business and economics spot in world ranking
By
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has taken the top spot for business and economics in the 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, a global ranking of universities, broken down by subject.
MIT also held the top spot in 2017, but was edged out by Stanford University last year. The institute rose to reclaim the number one spot in the subject this year, with an overall score of 93.0.
The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based university, which the rankings show has 11,231 students, was ranked fourth overall among more than 1,250 universities around the world in all subjects, and second overall among U.S. universities.
The rankings determine a university’s quality by examining five areas: the learning environment; the volume, income, and reputation of its research; the influence of its citations in other research; the international outlook of its staff, students, and research; and its knowledge transfer to various industries.
Stanford, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Duke University round out the top five on the list.
