Alumnae Look to Deepen Connections at the 2025 MIT Women’s Conference

By

At the conclusion of the 2022 MIT Sloan Women’s Conference, Kathryn Hawkes (Senior Associate Dean, External Engagement) posed a question to the alumnae in attendance. “Who will you take with you?”

Hawkes expressed her hope that the women of MIT were part of their answer. Three years later, the alumnae network from across all six of MIT’s schools is getting ready for the 2025 MIT Women’s Conference at the InterContinental Boston on Friday, March 28. This year’s conference is generously sponsored by the Anchor Point Foundation.

“This will be a chance to deepen your connections with the greater MIT community, draw inspiration from peers, faculty, and industry leaders, and see our alumnae community shine brightly,” says Hawkes.

Co-presented by the MIT Alumni Association and the MIT Sloan School of Management, this year’s MIT Women’s Conference will celebrate the connections between the alumnae network and the Institute—and one another. Attendees will gather at either of two pre-conference events on Thursday, March 27: a pre-conference dinner for MIT Sloan alumnae at the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, and a pre-conference reception co-hosted by the Association of MIT Alumnae and the MIT Club of Boston at the MIT Museum.

The following morning, the stage will be set by emcee Adela Jamal, SFMBA ’22, at the InterContinental Boston.

“The timing couldn’t be better, as we are a part of a unique point in history with incredible advances in technology and innovation, and we have brilliant women leaders at the forefront,” says Jamal, co-founder and managing partner at milemark•capital. “The stellar lineup of speakers and thoughtful topics is sure to resonate with the audience and drive further conversation and connection for this thriving community.”

Many MIT Sloan alumnae and faculty will be featured at the 2025 MIT Women’s Conference—including the lunchtime keynote presented by Renée Richardson Gosline (Senior Lecturer, Marketing; Head, Human-First AI Group at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy).

Gosline’s talk, titled “Leveraging Human-First AI,” will explore the limits of human-in-the-loop approaches in mitigating Generative AI errors and biases. Drawing from experiments that test her theory of “beneficial friction,” Gosline will share how tailored tools can help employees optimize AI use, ensuring better outcomes for companies and customers.

In addition to the final signature event and closing reception, the conference will feature numerous panels and breakout sessions regarding topics as diverse as health science, biotechnology, entrepreneurship, climate change, aerospace, and more.

The Women’s Conference is a chance to rekindle your bonds, forge new connections, and remind ourselves that when women come together at MIT, the possibilities are endless.

“I often hear from alumnae, ‘I wish I took more advantage of the MIT community, but I’m not sure how.’ This is how,” says Shari Van Cleave, EMBA ’15, founder of The Retreat and a co-presenter with Susan Neal (Lecturer; Entrepreneur in Residence, Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship) during the “Entrepreneurial Orbits” morning session. “The Women’s Conference is a chance to rekindle your bonds, forge new connections, and remind ourselves that when women come together at MIT, the possibilities are endless.”

Monica Lee, EMBA ’19, who provided the final keynote address at the 2022 conference and will be co-presenting the “Realize Your Superpower” session with Nicki Roth (Executive Coach Program Lead, MIT Leadership Center), could not agree more.

“MIT alumnae are, by nature, system changers. In order to thrive, the rate of learning must be greater than the rate of change in an environment. Participating in the conference will afford a tremendous learning experience,” says Lee.
