In 2024, the MIT Sloan alumni community stayed busy doing everything from founding venture capital firms to creating opportunities for second-chance hiring. Read on to see how your fellow Sloanies are reaching new heights in their work to build a better future.
Here are the top 10 alumni stories of 2024:
- Jared Miller, SB ’98, LGO ’03, compared his experience as a former executive vice president and CIO at Sphere Entertainment to his experience at MIT Sloan, citing the diversity of perspectives as a great tool for collaboration.
- ID Lab MBA students and faculty members talked about how the popular course helps translate knowledge and experience into successful leadership skills. “ID Lab is a critical first step to becoming an effective leader,” said Tracy Purinton (Senior Lecturer and Advisor, MIT Leadership Center).
- Every spring, the MIT Alumni Association (MITAA) announces volunteer leadership awards that honor outstanding accomplishments and service. This year, seven MIT Sloan alumni were recognized at the annual MIT Alumni Leadership Conference in September.
- Every year for 50 years, the United States Coast Guard has nominated a senior officer to apply to the MIT Sloan Fellows MBA (SFMBA) program. These alumni reflected on their experiences as SFMBA students in honor of the anniversary.
- The desire for work with global impact combined with the hope to stay connected to the unique MIT Sloan ecosystem inspired three alumni to found the venture capital firm milemark•capital.
- Shuman Ghosemajumder, MBA ’02, shared his insights into the new developments in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity during his MIT Sloan Alumni Online (MITSAO) presentation in February.
- Andrea Ippolito, SDM ’12, and Mark Rangell, SM ’89, are looking to transform how we provide breast and baby feeding support to families through a partnership between their companies, SimpliFed and nfant. “It’s that whole-person care,” said Rangell.
- During his fireside chat with Georgia Perakis (John C Head III Dean (Interim) at the MIT Sloan School of Management) at MIT Sloan Reunion 2024, NOBULL Co-Founder Marcus Wilson, MBA ’04, spoke about taking your future into your own hands by putting in the work and not making excuses.
- MIT Sloan students, faculty, and staff discussed how the new MIT Climate Policy Center will help fill gaps in the industry, develop technologies that tackle pressing climate issues, and encourage collaboration between MIT researchers and policymakers.
- In April, MIT Sloan hosted big-name companies like Nike, Intel, and more at the “Writing the Code: Second Chance Hiring” conference. “It is incredibly important that we consider those who have been pushed out,” said Brook Wages, MBA ’22.
