By

Three scholars from the MIT Institute for Work and Employment Research (IWER) have been interviewed on “The Work Goes On,” a podcast series hosted by Orley Ashenfelter, the Joseph Douglas Green 1895 Professor of Economics, Emeritus at Princeton University.

“The Work Goes On” features interviews with industrial relations scholars and labor economists as a form of oral history of the field. As part of the project, Ashenfelter has interviewed the following faculty from the IWER community:

  • Thomas Kochan, the George M. Bunker Professor of Management Emeritus at MIT Sloan, in a September 2023 segment covering topics such as the need for a new social contract regarding work and Kochan’s work as an arbitrator and mediator.
  • Michael Piore, the David W. Skinner Professor of Political Economy, Emeritus at MIT, in a June 2023 segment about Piore’s research on internal labor markets, innovation, and immigration.
  • MIT Professor of Management Emeritus Robert McKersie, in a February 2023 segment on his career studying industrial relations and labor negotiations, as well as his perspective on the labor movement today.
