Join MIT Sloan in Washington DC on February 7 for an evening with Nobel laureate Professor Simon Johnson, PhD ’89.  Professor Johnson will discuss his latest book co-authored with MIT Professor Daron Acemoglu—Power and Progress: Our Thousand-Year Struggle Over Technology and Prosperity—and share insights into his current research. You will also have the chance to connect with fellow alumni in the area who share a passion for economic development and policy. The first 100 registrants will receive a copy of the book.

About the featured speaker:
Professor Simon Johnson, PhD ’89, is a renowned economist and author, known for his insightful analysis of global economic issues. Johnson is a the co-recipient of the 2024 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel along with Daron Acemoglu of MIT and James A. Robinson of the University of Chicago. In their latest book Power and Progress, Professors Johnson and Acemoglu explore the intricate relationship between political power and economic progress, shedding light on how institutions shape the trajectory of nations. Their book has received prize nominations for the Financial Times and Schroders Business Book of the Year 2023, the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction 2023, and the 2024 Lionel Gelber Prize for best non-fiction book on international affairs in English.
