The top 10 MIT Sloan stories of 2014-2015

What a year. Farmers got drones, undergrads got Bitcoin, and your luggage got connected.

Take a look back at the most popular news stories from MIT Sloan in 2014-2015.

1. Six from MIT Sloan were named to the Forbes “30 under 30” lists.

2. The MIT Bitcoin Project offered $100 in Bitcoin to every MIT undergraduate. Results from the research project are expected later this summer.

3. Beepi, an online marketplace for used cars, took off with more than $79 million in funding. We’re guessing founder Alejandro Resnik, MBA ’13, is still smiling.

4. Eight startups, peddling everything from multi-currency credit cards to underwater robot swarms, vied for first place in the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition finale. Agricultural drone analytics company Raptor Maps (pictured) won the top prize.

5. Brian Chen, MBA ’16, invented a connected carry-on with a digital lock, built-in scale, and charging outlet, among other features. Chen’s crowdfunding campaign has raised more than $2 million.

6. Can poker skills build better risk managers? Master of Finance student Kevin Desmond taught a short course on what poker and finance have in common.

7. Failure is all the rage, but Senior Lecturer Anjali Sastry cut through the platitudes with Fail Better, a step-by-step guide to making failure count.

8. The MBA class of 2016 was 40 percent female, the highest ever for MIT Sloan.

9. When New England grocery store chain Market Basket fired its beloved CEO, employees fought back. MIT Sloan’s Thomas Kochan and Zeynep Ton extracted lessons for leaders and managers from the month-long (successful) protest.

10. The Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was launched as a partnership between MIT Sloan and Bank Negara Malaysia.
